Eco House - Devon
We have recently received planning consent for Blackawton Lodge, a new eco-home, which is nestled into a hillside in South Devon.
Taking inspiration from local dry-stone walling techniques, the intention is that the single-storey house will recede into the agricultural vernacular of the area, subservient and invisible to the mid 19th century villa that sits behind it.
Thick dry-stone walls with high levels of insulation and carefully placed south-facing glazing, combined with the submersion into the landscape, will create a passively stable temperature. A biomass boiler and PV array will create additional heat when required.
